Talking about transportation in Rayong, there are many personal cars and personal motorcycles on the roads as you may see in other Thai cities. But you will rarely see people walking in the streets and you won’t find any crowded public transportation. It doesn’t mean that cars are cheap here in Rayong or that people in Rayong are richer, but simply, the public transportation is not as convenient and comfortable as you may have in Bangkok. But let’s have a look to the transports you can find in the city.
First of all, one of the most commonly used public transportation in Rayong is the song-taew, you know these pick-up cars that has been converted in a sort of minibus with benches on the two sides of the trunk, you can find those in most Thai cities. Anyway, it is popular cause it is the cheapest mode of transportation, the price will depend on where you go but usually it will cost you between 10 to 40 baht and you can go as far as Laem Mae Phim or Ban Chang.
Basically, song-taews runs to and fro Rayong bus terminal (from Sukhumvit road, you can access it by turning into soi 39, going straight for a hundred meters and then turning right towards soi 43, after a few meters the station will be on your right), and you can go almost anywhere. If they want to know which one they should be taking, people will just check the signs on the side of the car, where the destinations are written. But if you cannot read Thai script, then a good way to go is to remember them by their color, to each destination corresponds a color.
